The Hearts Beat as One Foundation
The Hearts Beat as One Foundation strives to raise funds and awareness for organizations and people based in and around the Queen City. The foundation is a dedicated group of individuals who are coming together for the betterment of our entire city-wide community. We serve individuals and non-profit organizations in the greater Charlotte area through a variety of financial and non-financial means. Each year, our work is guided by several funding priorities.
2018 Funding Priorities
Our focus in 2018 is aligned with four key funding priorities. Click below to learn more about each focus area.
Hearts Beat as One Foundation's work has benefited a wide variety of organizations and causes.
The Dolly Parton Imagination Library
The Dolly Parton Imagination Library began with a vision of fostering a love of reading among preschool children and their families by providing them with the gift of a specially selected book each month. The initiative was recently brought to Charlotte by the Hearts Beat as One Foundation and was administered by Smart Start of Mecklenburg County. The initial rollout in 2015 funded enrollment for all new-born children that year in the 28205 ZIP code. In 2016, the program was expanded to cover 12 ZIP codes in Mecklenburg County with high concentrations of at-risk children. With success on the ground in Charlotte, the program was expanded in partnership with Smart Start of Mecklenburg County, with funds provided by the North Carolina General Assembly, to provide these key early education efforts to children across the state.

The mission of Safe Alliance is to provide hope and healing to people in crisis. They provide services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and offer trauma-informed counseling. Programs include The Clyde & Ethel Dickson Domestic Violence Shelter, the sexual trauma resource center, and the legal representation project. Hearts Beat as One Foundation funding allowed Safe Alliance to provide a continuum of care for their clients, including shelter, advocacy, legal support, and counseling services.
RAIN, formerly known as the Regional AIDS Interfaith Network, ensures access to quality, personalized care in a nurturing environment for individuals and their families who are living with HIV and associated chronic conditions so they may live healthier fulfilled lives. Through education and advocacy, RAIN promotes disease prevention, understanding, and dignity for those affected by HIV and for those who are at risk. Hearts Beat as One Foundation has provided funding to allow RAIN to offer critical services to those in need, as well as extend direct access to RAIN clients for new HIV prevention methods, including PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis), a once-daily drug which can prevent the spread of HIV.
The Charlotte Royals Rugby Club
Funding from Hearts Beat as One Foundation helped provide continuing support for the Charlotte Royals Rugby Club, whose mission is to foster a supportive environment where gay and bisexual men and their allies can learn and play the sport of rugby. Hearts Beat as One Foundation assisted in providing two scholarships to students enrolled in healthcare and fine arts and music programs.
Autism Charlotte is a local nonprofit foundation dedicated to addressing the needs of families in our community dealing with autism through inclusion-based programs. Their programs provide opportunities for children with autism to be integrated into the community, enabling them to lead productive, more independent lives. Funds raised by the Hearts Beat as One Foundation helped to expand Autism Charlotte’s Inclusion-Based Afterschool and Summer Enrichment Program for children with autism, a partnership with the YMCA and CMS which pairs peers and volunteers with affected children, giving all a life-changing experience.
